Al-Taj News – About 210 million American voters head to the polls on Tuesday to participate in the congressional midterm elections, amid intense competition between the Republican and Democratic parties, in an electoral contest that shapes the balance of power within the Senate and House of Representatives, and tests the ability of President Donald Trump to continue implementing his agenda during the final two years of his term.
The elections include the selection of 35 members out of 100 in the Senate, and all 435 members of the House of Representatives. These elections are held two years after the election of the president, allowing voters to evaluate the policies and performance of his administration, with their results serving as an indicator of American public opinion trends.
Early voting recorded a record number, after more than 52 million Americans cast their ballots, in person or by mail, according to data from the University of Florida Election Lab, compared to about 46 million voters before polling day in the 2022 midterm elections. Results are expected to begin emerging Tuesday evening.
